Galderma acquires ZO Skin Health in $1.5 billion deal
The Swiss dermatology company is acquiring the American skincare brand founded by Dr. Zein Obagi, six years after the two companies first entered a commercial partnership.

Galderma has agreed to acquire ZO Skin Health, the California skincare company founded by dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, in a transaction valuing the business at $1.5 billion.
The deal gives the Swiss dermatology company full ownership of a fast-growing physician-dispensed skincare brand with approximately $330 million in revenue during the 12 months to June 2026.
Galderma will acquire 100% of ZO Skin Health from shareholders including Blackstone-managed funds and the Obagi family. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 or early 2027.
A $1.5 billion bet on physician-dispensed skincare
ZO Skin Health has built a sizeable position at the intersection of medical aesthetics and premium skincare. The company sells more than 40 products through a network of over 16,500 physician practices, medical spas and online accounts.
Its products are now available in more than 40 countries, while manufacturing remains based in the United States.
Based on the approximately $330 million in revenue disclosed for the 12 months through June 2026, Galderma's $1.5 billion enterprise valuation represents roughly 4.5 times annual sales.
From commercial partner to owner
The acquisition also has a longer history than the headline transaction suggests. Galderma and ZO Skin Health were already working together six years ago.
In March 2020, Galderma announced a commercial collaboration with ZO Skin Health as part of an expansion of its American aesthetics business. The relationship connected Galderma's injectable aesthetics portfolio with ZO's physician-dispensed skincare offering.
That makes the 2026 transaction a notable progression: what began as a commercial partnership in the United States has developed into a $1.5 billion acquisition.
Why it matters for European companies scaling in America
For Galderma, the deal strengthens its exposure to the American aesthetics and skincare market while extending its relationship with physicians beyond injectable treatments and into daily skincare.
It is also a useful example of how European companies can use commercial partnerships as a pathway into deeper U.S. expansion. Galderma did not arrive at ZO Skin Health as an unfamiliar buyer: the companies had already spent years working alongside one another in the American market.
Six years after that first collaboration, Galderma is moving from partner to owner.
